10 Years Behind the Lens: My Beginnings

Photo du rédacteur: Lo KeeLo Kee

It’s February 2025, and it has now been exactly 10 years since I started photography. To mark this anniversary, I’ve decided to look back on this decade of adventures through a series of articles that will be published throughout the month of February on my blog.

So, this first article will look back at my first steps.

So, how did you get into photography?

It's probably the question I get asked the most, along with "What kind of camera do you use?" and "Do you only shoot in black and white?" I have no intention of making fun of those who ask, but it really shows how much interest there is in my journey!

So, for those who don’t know yet, I have a background in social sciences, with a Master’s degree in geography specializing in development aid. My work mainly involved conducting feasibility studies, supporting, and evaluating development projects in emerging countries, with a particular focus on electrification projects.

So yes, nothing to do with photography!

Hooked by the bug

After several months of experience in Burkina Faso, I returned to France with the intention of finding my next mission. During this job search, I felt the urge to use my free time to explore something new.

So, I bought a second-hand camera and started taking photos in the evenings, simply to relax. I quickly grew fond of it. Although hesitant to share my work at first, I soon received encouraging feedback, including from Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director of the Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, who noticed my work during a contest organized by the RATP.

After that, I continued balancing geography and photography for a couple of years. But I’ll tell you more in the next episode!
